"KASADYAHAN SA CAPIZ"
When you hear “Capiz”, two things come into mind: the place and the shell. But, most of us would probably think the shell.

Capiz is pronounced as "kapis".
As a Province
Capiz is a province of the Philippines in the Western Visayas region. It faces the Sibuyan Sea to the north. Roxas City is the capital of Capiz, it is located at the northeastern portion of the Panay island.
Known as the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines", it boasts of its 80-kilometer coastline. It has a wide stretch of swampy lands, converted into fishponds. Farming and fishing are the primary sources of income of the people.
As a Product
Capiz is known for its Capiz shell products.
These shells are used in making decorations, vases, lamps, lanterns, trays, accessories, ornaments, even doors, windows and more. The shell is similar to the mother-of-pearl shells.
Capiz shells are very important part in the Capiznon culture. It is a versatile and elegant decorating raw material. Most importantly, it is the major source of many locals that produces develops designs for ornamental decorations may it be indoors or outdoors.
Name any product, to your surprise can be made with Capiz shells. The list goes on for our creative Capiznons. They can make it as: lanterns, lamp shades, window pane, chandeliers, curtains, picture panels and frames, decorative balls, plates, decorative bowls, candle holders, tiles, flower vase, door hanging chime, soap dish, pendant, globe light, necklace decor, beads, bird cage, floor lamp holders, faux chandelier, gift boxes, collection item rack, indoor decoration and outdoor decoration ornaments. Proudly! Capiz shell products are recognized in the world market. Using them as decors and embellishments can turn a simple spot into a cozy, stylish and elegant place.
How Capiz Got Its Name
There are different versions, two of these are:
- 'Akean' and 'Kapid', meaning "twins", which Balingangan (Datu Bangkaya's eldest son) names his territories in honor of his twin daughters.
- When the Spaniards established a settlement, they found an abundance of a mollusk called 'pios' or 'kapid', the old native name which has also come to known as Capiz.

Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is a celebration the founding of Roxas City is held during the first week of December. The festival is also a commemoration of the feast of the city's patroness, the Virgin of the Immaculate Concepcion.
The festival, both hosted by Roxas City and Capiz Province, is annually held every first weekend of December. Sinadya sa Halaran is two merged festivals: Roxas City's Sinadaya (celebration) and Capiz Province' Halaran (offering).
The Sinadya Festival was commemorated on the same day of the Feast of Immaculate Concepcion at the Immaculate Concepcion Metropolitan Cathedral. On the other hand, the Halaran Festival was celebrated before every last week of October as a prelude to All Souls Day and All Saints Day.
To save costs and expenses, Roxas City and Capiz Province decided to merge the festivals. Now popularly known as the Sinadya sa Halaran Festival. The festivity is a celebration of culture and religion. Among the many highlights of activities are:
- grand parade of festival
- fluvial parade known as the “Prosesyon sa Suba”
- Mutya sa Halaran
- seafood festival
- fireworks display
Sinadya sa Halaran Festival is a celebration of joy in sharing and thanksgiving.

How to Get There
From Manila, you can fly to Roxas City (estimated cost of Php5,000++, round trip, 1- hour 5-minutes).
